Pommard 1er Cru Les Rugiens Bas 2011
Intro: The 2011 vintage of Les Rugiens Bas from Domaine de Montille (Pommard 1er Cru) is an elegant, terroir driven Pinot Noir that combines the iron rich soils of the “Bas” section with the refined winemaking of the estate. The vineyard name “Les Rugiens” comes from the red colored clay (“rouge”) rich in iron oxide, giving the wines their distinct mineral and ferric character. Domaine de Montille is the largest owner of the “Bas” portion of this climat (Les Rugiens Bas) with about 1.02 ha of vines. The estate emphasises whole cluster (whole bunch) fermentation when stems are ripe, and uses modest new oak to preserve terroir expression.

Tasting Notes: The 2011 Pommard 1er Cru Les Rugiens Bas, Domaine de Montille shows a medium deep ruby hue with aromas of raspberry, wild strawberry, forest floor, chestnut, sage, and wet stone. Medium bodied yet refined, it offers fine tannins, fresh acidity, and a firm mineral backbone. The finish is long and confident, marked by earthy terroir expression and gentle austerity. Still in its mid cellar phase, it promises further refinement with additional ageing
