Intro: For this wine old vineyards of Síria and Fonte Cal varieties were used, a region characterized by citric aromas and by a unique minerality and freshness in some of the harshest conditions in Portugal (Freezing winters and dry hot summers)

Region: Beira Interior (D.O.C)

Winery: Anselmo Mendes

Grapes: Siria & Fonte Cal

Aging: 9 Months in French Oak Barrels with regular batonnage and whole lees

Tasting Notes: Austere nose. Clear minerality with hints of spices (saffron and nutmeg). Hints of dried fruits, petrol and vegetal notes typical of the region. Creamy and full-bodied mouth, structured and buttery. Long, fresh and extremely mineral end.

ABV: 13%    Serving Temp: 10-12 °C  Pairing: Piri Piri Chicken, White Risotto, Tahini,   Lobster Roll, Spicy Crab

Forget Burgundy White

DOC Beira Interior, a sub region of Cova da Beira. A blend of Síria and Fonte Cal, this wine reminded me of mineral-mineral-mineral, citrus, straw, slight oak, white flower...why do you need to drink Burgundy white if this is as good at half the price? Exactly, because it's an off-the-radar underrated Portugese boutique white. Seafood all the way, baby! ABV 13%. 4.2/5.0
