Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru 2011
Intro: This is a refined Grand Cru Burgundy from a top Côte de Nuits estate: the 2011 Clos des Lambrays shows elegance, fine tannins and a poised structure rather than overt power. One reviewer described it as “very pure, with very elegant raspberry and dark cherry fruit … this fills the mouth without ever becoming heavy.” The vineyard plot for this wine, the Clos des Lambrays, is walled (“clos”) and has a documented history back to around 1365. While Domaine des Lambrays owns virtually all of the Clos, a very small portion is still held by another estate, making it nearly a monopole but not quite.
