Chablis 1er Cru Montee de Tonnerre 2017
Intro: This 2017 Premier Cru “Montée de Tonnerre” from Domaine François Raveneau is a superb example of top-tier Chablis, combining purity, depth and minerality. The vineyard “Montée de Tonnerre” is one of the largest Premier Cru holdings of the estate. The 2017 vintage at Raveneau had significantly reduced yields due to frost: one report noted “Just 15 hl/ha for the second year in a row.” The estate uses very old barrels (some 7-8 years old) and virtually no new oak for this cuvée so that the terroir and minerality shine through.

Tasting Notes: The 2017 Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre, François Raveneau shows a pale lemon gold hue. The nose reveals lemon, green apple, white flowers, almond, and chalky minerality. On the palate, it is medium full with bright acidity, layers of orchard and stone fruit, and a subtle oak texture adding depth. The finish is long, tense, and refined; precise and saline, reflecting Chablis’ purity and ageing potential
