Intro: The 2018 Meursault 1er Cru “Charmes” from Domaine des Comtes Lafon is a powerful yet refined benchmark white Burgundy. The “Charmes” vineyard parcel for Comtes Lafon is about 1.7 ha, located on the upper part of the Charmes slope, adjacent to the Puligny Montrachet “Combettes” and benefiting from calcareous, well drained soils. The estate has been practising organic and biodynamic viticulture for many years. The 2018 vintage is noted for being both generous in fruit and yet retaining fine acidity/mineral tension in the hands of Lafon, making it worthy of cellaring.

Tasting Notes: The 2018 Meursault 1er Cru Charmes, Comtes Lafon shows a pale gold hue with aromas of white flowers, almond paste, pear, yellow orchard fruit, citrus zest, and a touch of struck match minerality. Medium to full bodied, it is satiny yet structured, with notes of white peach, yellow plum, and apricot over a vibrant acid spine and chalky tension. The finish is long, firm, and mineral, with hints of almond and fine depth. Currently restrained and “introverted,” it promises greater complexity and expression with age
