Chateauneuf du Pape Reserve 2005
Intro: The 2005 “Réserve” from Domaine de la Vieille Julienne is widely regarded as one of the benchmark wines of that vintage in Châteauneuf du Pape. Crafted from ultra old vines (many 100+ years) and extremely low yields, producing a wine of depth, power, refinement and exceptional longevity. Produced in extremely limited quantity (circa 200 cases) from a one hectare parcel of 100 year plus Grenache vines planted on sandy soils. At release it was described as “the wine of the vintage” by Robert Parker.

Tasting Notes: The 2005 Châteauneuf du Pape Réserve, Domaine de La Vieille Julienne shows a deep inky purple hue. The nose is intense with blackcurrant, kirsch, licorice, smoke, underbrush, crushed stone, and fine spice. Full bodied and concentrated yet finely tuned, with refined tannins, vibrant acidity, and a mineral backbone. The finish is very long and powerful; built for decades, with potential to evolve gracefully for 20–30+ years
