Intro: This 2000 vintage of Cuvée de la Reine des Bois from Domaine de la Mordorée is a powerful, collector level expression from Châteauneuf du Pape, blending mostly Grenache with Mourvèdre, Syrah and other classic Rhône varieties. The wine is renowned for its inky deep color, rich black fruits, licorice, graphite and a long finish that marks its elite status. The name “Reine des Bois” means “Queen of the Woods”, referencing the estate’s emblem (a woodcock/bécasse) and the old vine parcels situated amidst the classic galets of the plateau.

Region: Rhône Valley || Winery: Domaine de la Mordorée

Grapes: 70% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre, 5% Cinsault, 5% Syrah, 5% Vaccarèse

Aging: Aged 18 months, with about 30% in French oak barrels and 70% in concrete vats before bottling

ABV: 15% || Decant: 30–60 minutes || Serving Temp: 16-18°C

Pairing: Roast duck breast with berry or plum jus; venison or other game in a wild mushroom and herb sauce

Tasting Notes: The 2000 Châteauneuf du Pape La Reine des Bois from Domaine de la Mordorée shows a deep ruby to garnet hue with aromas of black cherry, cassis, licorice, truffle, and tobacco. Full bodied and dense on the palate, it reveals layers of dark fruit, pepper spice, and mineral depth with refined tannins and a long, earthy finish. Fully mature yet beautifully balanced
